If you follow us, you’ll know by now that sustainability is a big deal for us here at ASL Group. What you may not know, is that we don’t just make it safer to recycle your devices, and easier to reduce the power and consumables your fleet uses. We also remanufacture devices to reduce those sent to landfill.

With over 21,000 leased devices in the field, we always have machines that have reached the end of their lease. So, rather than send them to landfill or sell them off for parts, we remanufacture the devices for continued use within a new printer or photocopier home.

What is device remanufacturing?
Device remanufacturing involves stripping back each device, right down to its frame. Then, our team of trained engineers goes through a detailed 12-step process to ensure that every item leaving ASL Group is officially 100% fit for duty. We cover everything from making sure the device is completely clean to it sporting the latest firmware updates.

Our 12-step remanufacturing process

  1. First, we assess the machine to determine whether it’s suitable for remanufacturing.
  2. We then test the machine to see if it is in working order and to clear any data or information stored from the previous leasee.
  3. We then strip the machine down and remove and clean all panels and consumable items.
  4. Once this has been done, we clean the machine body too and then test the drive assemblies for smooth operation. We lubricate or replace the components that need it.
  5. We then inspect all the internal components and rebuild the device. Where we need to, we use new parts to ensure that the machine leaves us in tip-top condition.
  6. We then prepare the panels for assembly.
  7. We reassemble internal units and refit covers.
  8. Update the firmware to the latest version and configure the device to assemble new parts.
  9. We then test the device to check print quality and paper feed.
  10. We then configure the machine to meet the requirements of its new owners.
  11. Only once all this has been done will a second technician take over, checking that each step of this process has been carried out thoroughly.
  12. Then, once we’re happy that the device is completely up to the job, we’ll wrap it ready to keep it safe when it’s shipped to its new home.

As far as remanufacturing or refurbishing goes, I’m sure you’ll agree that our 12-stage remanufacturing process is a pretty thorough one. It also provides a great alternative for someone who needs a copier or printer, but who doesn’t want to invest in a brand new device, and yet doesn’t want to have to compromise on quality.
