Cambridge based managed print services company, Automated Systems Ltd (ASL) had a unique plan for their next fund-raising event in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) – a sponsored cycle ride with a difference!
Sales Administrator, Slavka Stofova is returning to her native country, Slovakia, in October to marry her fiancé, James. To wish the couple well and support ASL’s chosen charity for 2014, Administration Manager Mandy Dunn came up with the idea of placing a static bike in the admin office for a host of dedicated cyclists who aim to clock up a total of 1200 miles – the equivalent of travelling from Cambridge to Slovakia.
On 1st October, keen cycling members of the ASL team took time out to pedal through as many miles as possible, with other staff members choosing to sponsor the individual miles or the whole event. Participants cycled during their lunch hour and at allocated time slots throughout the day – drinks and air conditioning were provided!
Mark Garius, Managing Director of ASL says: “ASL is delighted to support EACH as our chosen charity. Slavka is a valued and popular member of the team and her colleagues decided to help celebrate her forthcoming wedding. It’s a great idea to cycle the distance to Slovakia to raise money for a very worthy charity – as well as have a bit of fun as a team! We wish Slavka and James well and we’re delighted to have raised £396.86 for East Anglian Children’s Hospices”.
East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. EACH’s care and support is tailored for the needs of all family members and delivered where the families wish – in their own home, at hospital, in the community or at one of three hospices in East Anglia.
